When a person dies there are many things that need to be done, and often at a time of great personal distress. It can be difficult enough dealing with bereavement without having to deal with the deceased's property, possessions and personal matters. You will also need to ascertain if there is a will, and who is the appointed executer for the estate and probate. Allwood Funeral Directors would recommend you contact your solicitor for advice on these matters.
As well as informing relatives and friends about the death, on a more practical side you will have to inform the bank and or building society inform insurance companies and many other people such as pension scheme provider, mortgage provider, utility companies and GP, right down to the local newsagents. If required.

- Inform the tax office.
- Child Benefit Office (at the latest within eight weeks)
- Local authority, Council Tax, parking permit, Blue Badge (disabled parking).
- Social services help, if the deceased attended day care, home help or similar
- DVLA, return driving licence, car tax, car registration or change ownership
If the person who has died had a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) or Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) and you were the attorney, send the original LPA or EPA and a death certificate to the Office of the Public Guardian.
